ROX Beach Classic

The ROX Beach Classic is a revival of the Umhlanga Rocks Surf Lifesaving Club (ROX) Beach Run, which was first organised in 1973, it became a very popular fixture on the ROX calendar for many years. The beach run took participants from ROX to Umdloti Lifesavers and back. The Event was later named the ‘Cliff Honneysett Memorial Run’. Cliff Honneysett sadly died whilst hiking in the Transkei, he was one of the first professional Lifeguards and Beach Manager in Umhlanga. Cliff managed the beaches from 1962 till 1989. He also looked after the shark nets off Umhlanga before the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board was formed and took over the sole responsibility of servicing and maintenance of the nets.The ROX Beach Classic is being held on Sunday 23 September 2018 at 8.00 AM, the event not only caters for the Elite Runners and Mountain Bikers with a 14 KM route along the beach, a ½ distance run of 8 KM and an awesome family fun run/walk 4 KM.
